Cruise Day 3
Monday, March 9th 2009
Roseau, Dominica
We woke up pretty early this day because we were suppose to guide a Snorkel excursion. We were so excited. Again we woke up to a beautiful island. It is so refreshing to have such a different view out your window everyday. We were suppose to go the a reef called the "Champagne Reef". It was awesome. We had to meet at 9am and we took off around 9:30. We just had to walk over to an area by the ship to a little sail boat. Our captain was a cool island guy as well as the 3 other crew members. We had to sign papers saying that we would not sue them if we died or whatever. Then they passed our the gear and told those of us who have never done it before, how to. The instructor that I was listening to was named Kian and he was so nice and helpful and sweet. He helped you swim around and gave you a tour of the water land below. We saw some really cool fish and the reef is just beautiful. At this first sight, V. got stung by a jelly fish not once but TWICE. It was so funny. He first got bit on his had and then on his check. He went back to the ship to put vinegar on it to neutralize it. Also at the Champagne reef it got its name because there are little holes that release gas from the valcano and it looks like Champagne bubbles floating up. One of the guides dived down and got a sample of the water that is near the gas bubble holes and the water was extrememly hot. It was so cool. Then we finished there and went to another site that did not have as many cool fish but had a whole lot of jelly fish. I was exhausted by that point and did not stay in the water as long. We had a blast and we were in the same area that they filmed the Pirates of the Carriabean 2. It was amazing. Then we went back on the ship and had lunch and hit they hay. It was pretty tiresome to do all that swimming. By the way, every excursion we went on they offered free rum punch. It is like water on all the islands. It was pretty hilarious. After sleeping a little Victor went to the gym because the ship was still docked and not moving and I still slept. It was so nice to catch up on some sleep. Then we had dinner again with the Latin Department and we went to a show by Lelanie. It was fun to do a show and the Theater on the ship was ginormous. they also had a movie theater as well. I tell you this ship was bigger than anything I've ever been in or on. It was a blast. The only sad part of the day was that we did not really see the towns or the island itself but we still enjoyed every minute of it.
